Most photographers manually correct the tone and color on every image; those are the sliders in the Basics pane in Lightroom. This can be a huge time commitment and hold up in your post processing. Lightpanel aims to reduce that pain with the Auto Tone & White Balance features. These use trained AI models that have learned how to adjust the Lightroom Basics sliders for you. These generally perform better than Lightroom's auto tone and white balance, which need to function in the larger, general photographic community.
Lightpanel is unique as you can control the amount of automatic adjustments to your taste. Under the hood, Lightpanel sets ten sliders in Lightroom for you, but all you have to do is adjust one slider for tone and one for white balance.
Adjusting Tone
To make it easier for you to correct the tone, turn on the Auto Tone checkmark. You will see the sliders in Lightroom's Basics pane adjust accordingly. You can then change the slider in Lightpanel to tune the adjustment to your taste. 100 is the default value the AI models are trained to produce. Using a lower amount will reduce the amount of correction. A value over 100 will overdrive the results for an even more substantial correction.
Adjusting White Balance
To enable automatic correction of the White Balance, turn on the Auto Tone checkmark. You will see the sliders in Lightroom's White Balance section adjust accordingly. Changing the slider in Lightpanel will adjust it to your taste. 100 is the default value the AI models are trained to produce. Using a lower amount will reduce the amount of correction. A value over 100 will overdrive the results for an even more substantial correction.
At this time, Automatic White Balance correction is only supported for RAW file formats. The option will be disabled for JPGs. |
Develop Preferences
If you find yourself consistently adjusting the Auto Tone or White Balance amount sliders, you can adjust their defaults as well as adjust biases for Contrast and Vibrance in the Develop tab of the Preferences.
